The research and development (R&D) theme contains indicators that give an idea of R&D economic activity in Québec and can be used to compare the province with the other Canadian provinces as well as other OECD countries or groups of countries. This theme is divided into four sectors: gross domestic expenditure on R&D (GERD), business enterprise expenditure on R&D (BERD), higher education expenditure on R&D (HERD) and government intramural expenditure on R&D (GOVERD).
