The development and social adjustment of children and youth refer to their physical and mental health, their cognitive and language skills, their social skills, their learning and their integration into different living environments. Various topics are addressed in this section, including victimization at school, self-esteem, sexual behaviours, various types of violence among youth, behavioural problems, and dropping out of school. Statistics on family violence in the lives of children and youth are presented in the Family violence subsection.
